Atica

We have recently started going to Bottega on Friday nights for our family dinner and were curious to discover the same group has opened a Spanish restaurant a block away so after our weekly Bottega meal, we walked down to take a look at Atica and their Mexican venue in the same building, La Diosa. It turned out that both were in soft opening, taking reservations only to control the flow of customers, so we took down the booking number and decided to give it a try the following Friday.

La Diosa occupies a space on the ground floor of what was previously the Mansion Hotel as well as outside seating on the patio while Atica takes up the 5th floor with a lovely roof terrace space as well as the main indoor dining room.

To play it safe, we stuck to our favourite tapas dishes like tortilla de patatas (38 RMB), gambas al ajillo (shrimp in garlic and chilli oil, 88 RMB), croquettes de jamon iberico (48 RMB) and of course, some Spanish ham and cheese (188 RMB).

The have a walk in wine cellar rather than a wine list for you to choose your wine. Some wines weren't priced yet but I guess that's because they were still working things out, no big deal. We eventually just went with a house red wine which was perfectly decent for just over 200 RMB, but they do of course have higher tier options available for aficionados.

The staff are mostly Filipino and extremely friendly. On that first night when we only walked past to see if they were open, there was one waiter on the ground floor who greeted us and every time we have passed by since, he says hello with a big smile, including when we returned the following week to try Atica for the first time. Several of the other staff also recognised us on our second visit and said "nice to see you again". It really makes a difference especially when so many places - even supposedly high end places - have clueless staff who don't know how to welcome guests and are unfamiliar with their own menu! I cannot tell you how nice it is to be able to wave over a waiter and just verbally ask for a portion of croquetas de jamon and not get a confused look or have to get a menu and point to what I want.
In terms of price, well, it's not cheap, but also not expensive for the quality of the food and their entry level wines, at just over 200 RMB, is hard to beat in this city in 2025. Atica has been added to our Friday night rotation and La Diosa is on our radar to try at a future date.
They will be having a grand opening party on 6th July 2025 for both Atica and La Diosa to officially mark the end of the soft opening period.
