Fusion

Aster by Joshua Paris

Image Display Shanghai Image

Opened by Joshua Paris, former chef at the 3-Michelin star restaurant Ultra Violet (now closed), this is his first solo venture, opened in May 2025 in a new development near the end of Nanjing Road on the border of Jing'An and Changning. It's what I would describe as reasonably-priced fine dining and I wrote a blog post after I visited in June 2025 which you can read here. Highly recommended for a special night out.

Atelier No 3

Kingfish Tartar with Avocado and Churros

Originally more cocktail-focused, this has now morphed into more of a restaurant, although the cocktails are still great. The food is hard to classify, so I will just describe some of the dishes I enjoyed on my last visit: Kingfish tartar Churros, grilled Thai style Seabass, roasted pineapple to name a few. Everything was delicious.

Yaya's Pasta Bar

Garganelli alla Genovese (with slow cooked beef ragu)

Pasta done in a way that might make your Nonna turn in her grave, Yaya's serves up freshly made pasta in a variety of sauces with various western and Asian influences, a good example being their Mapo Tofu Lasagna (108 RMB). They also do small bites such as their Sichuan roasted eggplant dip and white anchovies with Guizhou fermented tomato and chilli sauce and larger mains including chicken Parma and roasted lamb ribs. This is a small, cosy venue with some outside seating which is semi covered in the colder months with outdoor heaters. Prices aren't cheap for pasta, but the dishes are creative and tasty and the quality of ingredients is very high.
