Grocery Shopping

Here are just a few places to get your grocery shopping. I'm listing a few high end supermarkets as well as some speciality stores where you can find more hard to find items from back home, especially if, like me, you're from the UK. For basics like fruit, vegetables and meat, you can find these everywhere in local supermarkets, wet markets and fruit and vegetable stores close to where you live or work, so I am not going to list any of these.

Supermarkets

City Super
City Super stocks a large selection of fresh and packaged products, everything from Iberian Ham to fresh scallops. Many imported products such as pasta, olive oil, potato chips, cheese, luxury chocolates, breakfast cereals, wines, spirits etc are available here. Various locations including:

Taikoo Hui, 789 Nanjing Road West, Basement level 2
兴亚太古汇 南京西路789号

IAPM Mall, 999 Huaihai Middle Road, Basement level 1
淮海中路999号环贸广场

Olé
Similar to City Super, Olé stocks a large selection of imported products for the homesick expat.

Kerry Center Mall, 1515 Nanjing Road West, Basement level 2, Jingan District
静安区南京西路1515号嘉里中心

Grand Gateway Mall, 1 Hongqiao Road, Basement level 1, Xuhui District
徐汇区虹桥路1号港汇广场B1楼近华山路

Hema (盒马)
Hema is a more local supermarket but still offers many products to suit western tastes and prices are generally more reasonable than the premium supermarkets like Olé and City Super. Primarily an online store, Hema has started to increase its bricks and mortar store presence with locations around the city.

Raffles City, 1123 Changning Road, Changning District
长宁区长宁路1123号来福士广场

Speciality / Imported Products

If you are looking for items that aren't readily available in local supermarkets, there are a few places I can recommend below.

Jerry's British Shop
This is an online store that sells a lot of imported goods, mostly from the UK like chocolate bars, crisps (Monster Munch, Walkers etc) and much more.

Avocado Lady
It may look like just another fruit and veg store in Shanghai, but this shop is legendary among expats in Shanghai. The store isn't actually called The Avocado Lady (I don't know if it even has a name), that is the nickname the extremely hardworking owner has acquired over the years. It's a tiny store crammed with almost everything you might need to prepare western dishes at home. If you need Parmesan cheese, Olive oil or even vanilla extract, she's got you covered! And yes, she even has avocados.

274 Wulumuqi Road (near Wuyuan Road), Xuhui District
